4 TECHNIQUES FOR CREATING A PEACEFUL ROOM

I finally got around to giving my office a face lift! Before starting, this time I took the time to research points that help make a room feel more peaceful + functional. I have a track record of redecorating every few months apparently, so says my husband.

While diving into what makes a room more peaceful, I got to learn more about Feng shui. It means wind and water and is the ancient Chinese art of placement. Water and wind (breath) flows through everything. People have found that you can use this flow of energy to enhance your home with objects.  Feng shui literally means connecting people to their environment where you can live in harmony with your surroundings. Now bare with me as I share these techniques. I am far from Ghandi but here are some points I took into consideration. Photos and tags are at the end of the read, sister. Let's dig in.

1. Clear your shit (aka clutter)

Your house is like a sponge, and it can hold onto bad energy when you have too many things surrounding you. Have you ever left your laundry out to be put away for a week straight and can't figure out why you get so crabby when you walk to your closet? Yeah, me either..

Clutter can affect you physically and emotionally. It brings your eyes down + scatters your thoughts. If you start feeling that heaviness in your home, hit record with Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and take that hour to start clearing up the mess around the house. Then treat yourself to an xt pour of red wine when you get to sit down and watch RHBH later that night *pats back

Again, this sounded fucking weird to me but stay with me. It's actually my favorite once I learned what energy enhancers are:

          - Greenery:  Plants add color, life, oxygen + positive energy into your home. I LOVE having real plants vs. fake ones. If you are far from a black thumb like myself, there are pants like Ficus or Mother-in-Law's Tongue that are so.low.key. but add warmth to the room. I get all of my plants from Lowe's or Home Depot year round!

          - Mirrors: Mirrors enlighten and expand a room with light. I also read that it helps move energy around. Naturally I used that as why I needed an 84" tall mirror in my office buuut I'm going to focus on that it helps brighten a room. And for the sake of selfies.

            - Music: Naturally I love have music playing in the house while I am reading, working or cleaning. Music evokes feeling. Putting on your favorite John Mayer album while folding laundry or taking an afternoon to clean the house is the perfect way to get back to feeling all the Zen.

3. Set a positive intention

By setting an intention or making an affirmation you will focus on that goal or desire you want to fulfill. Write something out in your notebook, bathroom mirror or refrigerator that you see daily.

4. Clear your space

Other than literally clearing off your dresser, smudging is another form or clearing your space. Smudging is like taking an energetic spiritual shower. Did you know the smoke from dried sage actually changes the ionic composition of the air + can have a direct effect on reducing our stress response? Did you know there's a technique when smudging? You can find more info here

Whenever I had a bad or off day, I burn my white sage to burn the bad energy away. After smudging I like to take a second (or 30 minutes balling) for prayer too.

Maybe ya learned something or maybe you're a total Zen babe already. Either way, here is my newly updated office with all the links at the end!

Ky
