BUILDING A WARDROBE CAPSULE
What is a capsule wardrobe? Long story short is that it is collection of classic pieces that work together with versatility, allowing you to create look after look with just a few items. A capsule wardrobe consists of your most essential clothing items, which serve as the building blocks of your closet. You can create entire looks with just the capsule wardrobe, and you can also layer capsule pieces with seasonal pieces and trendy, fast-fashion items! This blog post is going to take you through the 6 different pieces to have for versatility, simplicity + longevity!
Timeless blue jeans
Denim is a major component of your capsule wardrobe. Decide on the shades of denim you like. Decide on the fits of denim you like by trying on multiple options. And then, once you've narrowed it down to a pair of jeans that you know that you will appreciate for many years to come, get a couple of pairs of those jeans, in different colors, such as a black that will go with almost anything, and a pair of blue, which is universal. Denim is easy to dress up and dress down! Abercrombie’s new Curve line is their line that has an xt 2 inches to the hips for those of us with some booty. If you are someone who is constantly taking your jeans to get hemmed, Abercombie offer multiple different length options too!
Neutral tops
You’ll need a few basic tees + tanks to wear with pants, skirts, dresses, and as casual wear. Black, grey, nude and white are good choices for these basics. These can be worn as extra layers or under cardigans or sweaters. I also recommend having some that are neutral and then maybe a couple of more bold options in various colors This way you can mix and match as you need them.
Classic shoes
You’ll want at least two-three pairs of shoes. A white sneaker will never go out of style because it goes with everything. My Nike’s + Puma’s have been my go-to! They are perfect to go with athletic looks but also pairing with a simple tee and jeans. For work or special occasions, you might want something dressier. That’s when I suggest investing in a pair of designer shoes. Material matters, the quality of more expensive items will last longer. Simple designer pieces in nude or black just doesn’t go out of style, and you’ll have them for years to come! If you are the kind of person who likes a heel, go for a heel, but in a more neutral color, like nude. For those days when you don't feel like walking around in a heel all day, try a dressed-up flat that isn't a sneaker.
Non-jeans
Non jeans are essential to have, let’s be real, no one loves wearing jeans 24/7. Leather leggings/pants, neutral color sweats, black workout leggings and trousers are all examples to have in your closet. Style them up with turtleneck sweaters, loose-cut shirts and blazers for day, then switch to a slinky camisole come night. Pair a bodysuit with a pair of your sweats and give it a more elevated look. Leather pants– with their slick tailored mood for the office and cool, tactile edge for after hours – are a natural go-to.
Staple jackets
Whether it’s a trench coat, an overcoat, a denim jacket, or something heavier weight, make sure you have a great piece of outerwear. A leather jacket truly has yet to go out of style, it's easy, and it shows style without making any real effort. I suggest finding at least one good/high-quality leather coat. It also doesn't have to be real leather; there are a lot of vegan leather options as well.
Timeless purses
In this new era of what constitutes an essential, handbags have not only topped the charts, but we’ve also developed more meaningful relationships with our closet stalwarts! 3 basic styles to keep in mind are a clutch, a crossbody + a tote/bucket. Investing in a bag will elevate your look, last longer + again, will stay around for years to come! Designer purses such as Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton.
