Wardrobe Clean-Out

It’s time for a fresh start! If you’ve ever stared at your overflowing closet and thought, I have nothing to wear, then a wardrobe clean-out is exactly what you need. In my latest session, I went through my closet, decluttered items I no longer wear, and curated a collection of pieces that truly reflect my style.

And because I know how overwhelming it can feel, I’ve created a Wardrobe Cleaning Checklist for you to download! Next time you’re ready to tackle your closet, use this step-by-step guide to make the process simple and stress-free. Click here to grab it!

Step 1: The Purge – What Stays & What Goes

The first step was pulling everything out and assessing each item. My rule? If I hadn’t worn it in the past year (or it didn’t make me feel confident), it was time to let it go. Some easy decisions included:

  • Pieces that no longer fit quite right

  • Styles I’ve outgrown or don’t align with my current aesthetic

  • Duplicates—because let’s be honest, no one needs five identical black sweaters

Step 2: Sorting & Organizing

Once I decided what to keep, I categorized my wardrobe into sections:

  • Staple Pieces: Basics I reach for regularly—classic jeans, neutral tops, and layering pieces.

  • Statement Items: Bold colors, trendy silhouettes, and pieces I love for specific occasions.

  • Seasonal Rotation: I packed away out-of-season items to free up space.

Step 3: Selling, Donating & Repurposing

Rather than tossing unwanted clothes, I sorted them into three categories:

  • Sell: High-quality, lightly worn items went into a resale pile for Poshmark or Depop.

  • Donate: Anything in good condition but not worth selling will be donated.

  • Repurpose: A few older items were perfect for DIY projects or lounge wear.

Step 4: The Final Touch – Closet Organization

With everything decluttered, I restructured my closet to make getting dressed easier:

  • Used matching hangers for a uniform look

  • Arranged by category and color for quick outfit selection

  • Stored accessories in clear bins for easy access

Final Thoughts

This wardrobe clean-out was so refreshing, and now I can actually see and appreciate what I own. If your closet is due for a reset, I highly recommend setting aside time to declutter. Not only will it make your mornings smoother, but it’ll also help you define your personal style.
