‘23 Fall fashion trends
Crisp morning air and leaves on the ground is quickly approaching - and with that comes some new trends for our wardrobe. If you’ve been here for a minute, you know I personally like to keep solid basic staples as the majority of my wardrobe and then add a couple of “trending” pieces during the year. Fall trends debuted earlier this year which brings lots of excitement and a lot of squinting my eyes asking myself “how the hell do I wear that?”.
In this blog post I’ll share some of the top trends we are going to see going into the end of the year and share how you can take it from the runways to real life. Let’s scroll and catch up on fall 2023 trends.
Colors of the season
Every season there is a “it” color. For example, emerald green was springs color. Going into fall/winter it’s safe to say bold red has been deemed the color of fall along with some shades of yellow aka mellow yellow. Think butter yellow. Not in my color house but I’ll take some vitamin D come winter.
How to add this into your closet.
Since you’re on my page I’m assuming you can relate to me and my since of minimalism in my closet. Adding colors like red & yellow might be just a tad intimidating to add to an outfit but we can do so subtly. Accessories are my favorite way to add a pop of color to my closet. Think shoes, necklaces/earrings, handbags or even makeup. If these are colors you absolutely love and know you will wear for more than a season, investing more money on a handbag might be worth it, but if yellow is not a forever color I’d keep it with accessories.
Back to the basics
Ok, I honestly feel like this is a trend every year and they find little ways to tweak it. As a minimalist I’m not mad LOL Think classic tailored pieces like blazers, trousers and tailored vests. Abercrombie’s tailored pants take the cake for me.

I feel like this is the easiest trend to add to closets. I’d be willing to bet you already have a blazer of some sort in there! I love taking these pieces that are meant to elevate and dress them down. Examples: a hoodie under a blazer, a vest with no shirt underneath paired with jeans or tailored pants with a bodysuit and tennis shoes.
LEATHER SETS
Again, I don’t think leather will ever be out of style. We started seeing leather coming “back” to the runway with trench coats and pants and now we are combining all of them together. Think a pair of leather trousers with leather corset top and a leather blazer.

Some people can rock the shit out of this and I’m their #1 fan! However, minimalist here (hi) so I like to take these pieces and add them in just once or twice into an outfit. Leather trousers with a bodysuit, denim paired with a leather trench or a leather corset top paired with tailored trousers and some stilettos. Honestly, throw on anything leather and it’s an instant boss mood.
SHEER
Forms of classic and romantic sheer outfits marched right down the runway, I asked myself how in the hell do I wear that in Billings, MT 🥴 After doing some research I have found that this might be more of a transitional trend vs. a dead of winter one.

When combined with solid pieces, the sheer clothing trend is simply chef's kiss. Wear a bandeau, opaque crop top, or simply a cute bra underneath a sheer top when you want some coverage or wear a pair of booty shorts underneath a sheer dress or skirt.
OVERSIZED OUTERWEAR
The oversized coat trend is very doable and includes any and all jackets. As someone who will see through any winter with a trusty shearling piece, I can attest that this trend is one to have and hold along with your best wool coats and puffers.

Big, tailored shoulders (padded or not) and double-breasted fits will ensure you retain some shape no matter how big your jacket is. If you typically wear a bomber or biker jacket, opt for one that's roomy enough to allow ample layering underneath.
Trenches or other floor-length coats are almost a one-and-done ensemble in and of themselves, especially if you're going to be outside in the chill all day.
SHOES
POINTY TOES. For a couple years squared and rounded shoes took over but it’s fair to say that pointed toe shoes have made their way back. Stilettos, western wear and flats. Never thought I’d see ballerina flats again (que middle school) but these trends alllllways find their way back around. Pointy toed shoes are a great way to take a simple outfit and instantly elevate it.
FOLD OVER BOOTS. We’ve been seeing this trend over the past year and it’s staying for yet another season. You can rock them with dresses, skirts and denim. There’s really no wrong way to style them.
FUZZY. Yes, fuzzy. Y’all this is a trend that I just refuse to back up. Over.my.dead.body. Who in the hell wants to look like Sasquatch walking down the street?
