101 WITH WINTER SKIN CARE
Is it hard to keep your holiday glow in this dry ass winter? If yes, then welcome to the club, + keep reading.
The season is changing, and our skin care habits need to change with it. With summer comes light moisturizers aside from our Corona's, however our skin demands a lot more attention in the winter. During winter season, as temperatures drop, the humidity in the air drops too and this leads to dryness in the skin. You probably have noticed that when the winter starts, your legs, arms, and cheeks suffer the most. That’s because these are the weakest spots of our body because they have little to no sebaceous oil glands, which are in charge of moisturizing our skin. You might notice your skin becoming tighter, increased break outs + your glow starting to fade. Let's chat about a few tips that have helped me as we enter this season:
1. WATER. WATER + MORE WATER.
Hydrating yourself from the inside + it will show. It helps your body functioning well, keeps you healthy, and your skin hydrated as fuck.
2. Don't ditch sunscreen.
No matter the season, applying sunscreen is very important. The harmful UV light can stress your skin's moisture barrier, so to maintain hydration, you should apply sunscreen daily. Beautycounter's, Tinted Dew Skin, is my absolute favorite product for this. It's a sheer-coverage tinted moisturizer that helps even skin tone as it protects against sun’s damaging rays with SPF 20 mineral sunscreen. Getting that "no make-up" make up look with SPF in it! This is a product I wear EVERY DAMN DAY.
3. Lighten up on your exfoliation.
Yes, exfoliation is important to help clear away the dirt and dry/dead skin cells between the cold air outside and dry indoor heating, your skin cells dehydrate and die out faster in winter. You’ll want to buff away these dead cells so new cells can come in healthier and without obstruction. Twice a week should do just the trick! I use my Clear Pore Cleanser 2x a week and my Foaming Cleanser the other 5 days! Exfoliations improve the effectiveness of moisturizers, which leads to my next tip!
4. MOISTURIZE.
Lather yourself up as much as you do with butter on a croissant Christmas morning. It's not just about the cleansers here. When it gets colder your skin is losing its moisture barrier, weaking itself to protect itself. If you feel like your face cannot get enough moisture during winter, or you still have dry patches at the end of the day, you may need to step up to a richer moisturizer.
The days of the thinner, lightweight formula you used during the warmer months doesn’t quite stand up to the mega dryness of winter. Try a richer cream that will protect your skin and give it lasting moisture. If you don’t like the feel of wearing heavier formulas all day, you can also just switch out your pm moisturizer for something richer that will nourish skin while you sleep!
There are a million and five tips + tricks for this topic so I am going to keep it short and sweet with these 4 that have helped me! May your skin be moisturized, and your vodka martini be strong as fuck this evening. Thanks for being here. Cheers!
